Preseason Week 1 Review

Preseason Week 1 in Review:

Remember it’s only Week 1 of the preseason; don’t put too much stock into what you see in the preseason.

Here are a few notable players who impressed me this past week:
  1. Stevan Ridley, RB, Patriots. Ridley looked quick, ran with his head down, and moved fast on the field.
  2. Sam Bradford, QB, Rams. Bradford led his team straight down the field for a score and looked confident in the pocket. Bradford was able to show off all of his new offensive weapons.
  3. Chris Johnson, RB, Titans. Johnson showed his elite speed and sparked some hope in fantasy owners that he could bounce back from a poor showing the last two seasons and run like the old Chris Johnson.

With Week 2 of the preseason coming up, fantasy owners still shouldn’t anticipate a ton a of playing time from the starters, so use this time instead to look for potential sleeper picks. Remember Victor Cruz’s standout preseason 3 seasons ago? Cruz is now a probowl WR.

Beginner Tips

If it’s your first time playing Fantasy Football, don’t be nervous or intimidated by the other owners in your league. Remember, it’s just a game! Here are just a few things you need to know:

  1. Draft a Top QB in your Fantasy draft. Don’t Listen to the people that say you should get a WR or RB.
  2. Don’t draft players just because they play on your favorite team. I recommend not drafting any player that plays for your favorite team. I hate getting upset when a player on my favorite team scores a TD because it’s not the player I started for my fantasy team.
  3. Don’t feel like you have to accept every trade that other owners offer you. Be patient with all trades and I recommend sleeping on the trade.
  4. Don’t draft two kickers and two TE’s. Get more depth at RB and WR; you'll need it.
  5. Finally, have fun and remember the more you play the better you will get at the game.

Don't Be THAT Guy

Here’s a few tidbits about playing in a dynasty league. Make sure you get a QB; don’t be that guy who is forced to start Joe Flacco every week while you’re playing against Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Don’t be that guy who trades all your veterans for young, unproven players. NOT every young player will become the next Adrian Peterson or Calvin Johnson. At the same time, don’t be that guy who trades his young player the season before he “goes off”. Keep your young, talented player for at least 3 full seasons. Finally, trust your gut, there will be times when you need to just roll the dice and take a chance....that’s the fun of Dynasty Fantasy Football.  Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Your dynasty team won’t be either.
