1. Arian Foster
BUST: Overrated. Top 6 Fantasy RB, but NOT Top 3.
Sure. When you think about the word “Bust” Arian Foster is NOT the first name that comes to your mind. Foster has been a top 3 fantasy player the past few years now, right? On the surface it looks like Foster is in for another great top 3 level fantasy season. That’s why you let somebody else select him in the top 3 of your fantasy draft. When I look closer at Foster, I see an aging running back that has been taking a beating the past 3 seasons. He leads the league in carries over the past 2 seasons. You might say that’s a good thing if you own him, right? Wrong! That tells me he has been hit more than any other running back the past 2 years. Foster’s Yards Per Carry (YPC) has dropped over the past 2 years. Last season, his YPC dropped to 4.05; that’s a worse average than Deangelo Williams, who had a 4.3 YPC average last season. Aside from Foster’s decreased YPC, look at who’s going to be stealing carries from him. Backup RB Ben Tate is in the final year of his contract and is finally healthy. I see Tate getting 8-10 carries per game and taking the load off Foster. Overall what does this mean? It means Foster will still have a solid season, but it won’t be a top 3 fantasy year.
Projection: 1,200 rushing yards, 9 TDs.
BUST: A backup RB at best, but not a starter.
Yes, DeMarco Murray is a bust. Fantasy players still keep drafting his as if he is an above average starting Fantasy RB. Believing that Murray can stay healthy and play in all 16 games is like believing Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriquez can play an entire season without using steroids. It’s just not going to happen. The only way I would draft Murray at all is if he dropped to the 8th or 9th round and would add depth to my RB stable. Otherwise, turn around and run when you see Murray’s name on the list of top ranked available players.
Projection 800 rushing yards, 7 TDs.
BUST: A #3 WR, but not a #1 or #2.
One of the biggest surprises of last year’s fantasy season was James Jones, who helped elevate fantasy teams to the playoffs and maybe even championships. Jones reeled in a career high 14 TDs last season. He had a total of 20 TDs in the previous 5 seasons. Sure, Jones had a great fantasy season last year, and yes, the Packers lost their number one WR Greg Jennings to Free Agency. BUT, that does’t add up to Jones having another top WR fantasy season. I see teams focusing more on Jones, and when you consider the fact that the Packers want to run the ball more with Eddie Lacey, this doesn’t translate to another 14 TD season. Jones is a solid Fantasy number 3 WR, but will be a bust if you draft him as your number 1 or 2 fantasy WR.
Projection 850 receiving yards, 7 TDs.
